For years Nicola Perrett’s family couldn’t fathom where their missing clothing was going.
But when their golden retriever Bailey had an operation for a suspected tumor all was revealed.
The dog’s tummy bulge wasn’t a tumor, vet Keith Moore discovered. Instead he pulled out 17 garments, including nine socks, four gloves and a stocking. He described it as “like performing a magic trick.”
He said: “We were just pulling out one sock after another.” Bailey, seven, had been taken to the vet by Nicola for his annual check-up. When Mr Moore noticed a mass in Bailey’s stomach he thought it was cancer and phoned Ms Perrett, 44, with the bad news.
The mother of two cried all morning but was amazed later when the dog was found to be healthy.
Ms Perrett, a customer service manager at B&Q, said Bailey had probably been eating the items for years – her son Jack, 15, had first noticed that his rubber gloves went missing two years ago. Daughter Laura, 18, also lost various garments to the family pet.
Ms Perrett, from Poole, Dorset, said: “This year Bailey had lost a bit of weight and the vet must have been able to feel a lump. Now he’s back to being like a puppy again.
“He is a really mad dog – full of beans and always up to mischief.”
Mr Moore, from Corfe Mullen, said: “I doubt I’ll ever see anything like this again in my career.
“It is amazing that he was not more unwell or sick but was still eating his food.”

Slime Vomiting Dog Toy:
In August, Bandai subsidiary Mega House will ship its new "Biri Biri Kaze Hiki Wanko," ("shocking sick puppy") toy, which commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of toy slime with a plastic vomiting doggy.

This game functions somewhat like Milton Bradley’s Operation, though with a much higher ick factor: the toy puppy, who has caught a cold, drools a concoction of slime and plastic germs. Players must extract these germs using the tweezers without letting the metal part touch the slime, an act which produces a buzzing shock. The player who collects the most germs wins. Play continues by loading the mess into a compartment in the dog’s head. LINK

N.J. Dog Crowned World's Ugliest:
PETALUMA, Calif. - Elwood, a 2-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix, was crowned the world's ugliest dog Friday, a distinction that delighted the New Jersey mutt's owners.

Elwood, dark colored and hairless — save for a mohawk-like puff of white fur on his head — is often referred to as "Yoda," or "ET," for his resemblance to those famous science fiction characters.
"I think he's the cutest thing that ever lived," said Elwood's owner, Karen Quigley, a resident of Sewell, New Jersey.
Quigley brought Elwood out to compete for the second year at the annual ugly dog contest at the Marin-Sonoma County Fair. Elwood placed second last year.
Most of the competing canines were also Chinese Crested, a breed that features a mohawk, bug eyes and a long, wagging tongue.
Quigley said she rescued Elwood two years ago. "The breeder was going to euthanize him because she thought he was too ugly to sell," said Quigley.
"So ha ha, now Elwood's all over the Internet and people love him and adore him."
Beyond the regal title of ugliest dog, Elwood also earned a $1,000 reward for his owner.
